William Preston Powers Sr., 81, of Westerly, WV, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at The Cottages at Danny Kaye Assisted Living. William was born on October 17, 1941, in Westerly, WV, to the late Burley Powers and Rosamae Patterson.
William Preston Powers Sr. was a Civil Servant in San Angelo, TX. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force retiring with a rank Senior Master Sergeant. Serving in Crete, Misawa, Iceland, San Antonio, and Turkey.
William was a prolific runner and athlete running in the Boston City Marathon. He could be see running on goodfellow everyday at lunchtime. William enjoyed restoring vehicles with lifelong friends Alan Kenum and Richard Macelderry.
In addition to his parents, William is preceded in death by his brother Frank Powers and sister Ellen Fleshman.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 36 years Helen Powers, sons William Powers Jr. and Anthony Powers, sister Hazel Basista, grandchildren Rachel Powers Jared Powers, Alexi Powers, and lifelong friends Rev. Jackie Pittman (Tammy).
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, WV, with Rev. Jackie Pittman officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to: Shiners Hospital, St. Jude’s, Regional Food Bank, and local animal shelter.
