Obituary for William Ronald "Satch" Mathews

William Ronald Mathews, 79, of Gatewood, WV went to meet his Heavenly Father and his loving wife on November 27, 2021, after battling a long illness.
Born September 11, 1942, in Lochgelly, WV to Herbert Ronald and Jennie (Scott) Mathews. William, affectionately known to others as Satch, attended Oak Hill High School. He joined the United States Army and was a proud Vietnam Veteran.
In addition to his parents Satch is preceded in death by his wife Diane Sue Mathews; sister Barbara Nichols of Oak Hill, WV and great-granddaughter Aubree Rhoades of Fairmont, WV.
Those left to cherish his memory are three daughters Ronnie Sue Cogar (Bob) of Fairmont, WV, Lesley Peck (Robby) of Shady Spring, WV and Tori Lester (Scott) of Crab Orchard, WV; son JL Rhoades (Barbara Weaver) of Belington, WV; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Harding of Oak Hill, WV; brother Jimmie Mathews (Lil) of Oak Hill, WV and brother-in-law Don Nichols of Oak Hill, WV. Satch also leaves behind a few special people who helped him throughout his last few years, Chuck and Meredith Feazell of Gatewood, WV and the Fox family of Gatewood, WV.
Satch had many accomplishments in life but the one he treasured most was being a husband, father, and paw. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers at Oak Hill Place where Satch was a resident the last months of his life. He enjoyed his time there and the staff became more like family than caregivers. A special thank you to Coretta and Brittany who always put a smile on his face.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, December 3, 2021, at High Lawn Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Scott Lester officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends my call on the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Gatewood Brethren Church.
