Obituary

William Larry Dodson, 81, fell asleep in death on November 15, 2020.
Larry, as his family called him, was born on August 5, 1939 in Charleston, WV. He moved with his family to Richmond, VA where Larry attended a school for special needs children. Even after moving back with his family to Scarbro, WV, Larry fondly remembered his time there and would tell stories of what he had learned.
Larry held a special place in the hearts of all who knew him. He was especially the light of his mother's eyes. They shared a very special bond. She loved to care and cook for him and anyone who knew Larry knew that food was the way to his heart. As a young man, Larry loved to ride his bike, help with tasks around the house and collect his favorite items. Family and friends kept his collections of photos, postcards, hats, watches and Matchbox cars growing over the years. He loved to organize his treasures and each had a place. Over the years he was a fixture in the lives of all the kids added to the family. Everyone knew that Larry was someone special. He would share stories and had a witty sense of humor. Despite the challenges in his life, he had a smile that would light up a room.
Larry is preceded in death by his father and mother, William Elmer Dodson and Mildred Frances Dodson; his sisters, Marynell Davis and Glenna Gaye Dodson; and his brother, Truman Lee Dodson. He is survived by his sister, Gloria "Penny" Elaine Dixon and sister in law, Eva Dodson. Those left to cherish his memories also include many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews and friends. Larry was lovingly cared for by his family members for the majority of his life in his home. Some of the very special caregivers were his mother Mildred Dodson, brother Truman Dodson, sister in law Eva Dodson, sister Penny Dixon and his niece Veva Dodson. Later in life he had special caregivers at Hidden Valley Center.
A private graveside service will be held for family on Friday, November 20th at 2:00 pm at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill, WV. Please wear a mask in compliance with WV state laws.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share a memory or story you have from your time spent with Larry.
