Obituary for Shirley Hylton

Shirley Hylton, 78, of Fayetteville, West Virginia, leaped into the arms of her Savior Friday, December 10 at 1:31 pm. Her story began in Bluefield, West Virginia when she first saw the light of day on November 7, 1943. Shirley was the eldest child of Harry Wetzel Young and Ruth Gillenwater Young. She deeply loved her siblings Harry W. Young Jr. (Alice), Sheila R. McKinney (Perry), and Sandy K. Galatic (John). Each of whom was a vital part of her life and care.
She married the love of her life in 1964, her late husband Joseph E. Hylton Sr. Their love created three children, Tina M. Miller of Winfield, Joseph E. Hylton Jr. (Rhonda) of Fayetteville, and Terry D. Hylton of Hico, West Virginia.
Her family was her treasure and grew to include six grandchildren, Michael Hylton, Kristin Hylton, Kara Ramsey, Caitlyn Hylton, Samuel Miller, and Olivia Miller. Three great-grandchildren, Grayson, Aurora, Bear, and one on the way.
In the mid-1980's Shirley and her late husband Joe began seeking a deeper relationship with God. They traveled the country attending services conducted by gifted teachers in large arenas. They learned a great deal but returned home to West Virginia feeling like there was more to experience. Shirley often recounted how she and Joe received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. While attending a simple meeting in Beckley, they shared their desire to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the keynote speaker Johnny Johnson. Johnson replied, "Seek, and ye shall find,"; both Shirley and Joe received the baptism that day. It was life-changing; it opened a whole new world for Shirley. Until her passing, she lived to share her love of God and Jesus with everyone she encountered. She witnessed miracles and recounted them so that all the people she met might know the joy she felt in being a child of a living God.
That simple meeting also introduced Shirley and Joe to Pastor Rudell Bloomfield, the then pastor of Mountain View Church of God. They became active, proud members of the church and began to build their church family, a true second family, many of whom are no longer with us. Shirley's family deeply cherishes those who remain; each is a beautiful soul and forever linked with her memory.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation for all the prayers and support from the Mountain View family, including but not limited to Audrey Bloomfield, Yvonne Pack, Caroleigh Ford, Barbara Goode, David and Tag Williams, and Miyang Walton for their rock-solid support during this most difficult time.
We would also like to thank Amanda, Jeanne, and Luke from High Lawn Funeral services in Oak Hill, WV, for their caring and compassionate nature in arranging her final needs.
A celebration of life for Shirley and Joe Hylton will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at the Mt. View Church of God, Hilltop, WV, with Reverend Yvonne Pack officiating.
