Ruby Christine smith passed away on July 6, 2020 after a brief illness. She was 91 years old. Ruby was born on July 6, 1929 in Oak Hill, WV to Mike & Mamie Protka. She was a proud mother of 3 children. Ruby was a Fayette County Board of Education cook at Collins Middle School in Oak Hill, WV for 32 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Smith, a son, Donald Warren Protka, a brother Carl Protka, two sisters Maybelle Butler & Mary Lively. Those left to cherish her memory include two sisters, Helen Staton & Betty Peters, a son, Michael Eugene Protka, a daughter, Rhonda Lynn Protka. Two grandsons, Josh Protka (wife, Kelly Protka) & Jason Davis (wife, Debra Davis), a grandaughter Sarah Franklin (husband, Michael Franklin). Four great grandsons, Jacob Protka, Caleb Protka, Hunter Franklin & Austin Davis and a great grandaughter, Hannah Franklin. Also a host of nieces and nephews. She will be forever loved & forever missed.
Private services will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at High Lawn Funeral Home with Eric Smith of Mount Airy, NC officiating.
