Obituary for Nancy Kay Johnson

Nancy Kay Johnson, 63, of Mt. Hope, WV passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Bowers Hospice House of Southern WV in Beckley, WV. Nancy was born on March 5, 1958 in Hinton, WV to Oley and Oma Fleshman.
Nancy was a federal workers’ compensation coordinator for the Mine, Safety & Health Administration in District 4, Mt. Hope, WV for 37 years, retiring in July 2015.
She went to United Methodist Church in Beckley for several years then started going to Maple Fork Baptist Church where she became a member with her husband, Mike. Nancy loved going to church and reading her Bible. She graduated in 1976 from Meadow Bridge High School as co-valedictorian and had a 2-year secretarial degree from Beckley College.
She was on the Board of the Fayette Federal Credit Union until she was unable to go to the meetings due to her health. She loved gardening, painting, crafting and walking the trails in WV, VA, OH, PA & SC. Nancy also loved going to Myrtle Beach but always looked forward to coming back home and relaxing on her deck with Mike and her little buddy George.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Oley Fleshman, nephew Kevin Lowe and her paternal and maternal grandparents.
Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband, Mike, mother Oma Fleshman, sister Mary Lowe, brother-in-law Gary, special Aunt “Elt” and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles. This also includes all the wonderful staff at Oak Hill Place as well as the staff of Bowers Hospice House whom all loved Nancy and all of our church family-all of our great friends who have been with us during these last several years. You are all my Heros, Thank God for you all.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday December 31st, at High Lawn Funeral Home with Jim Bowyer of Maple Fork Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park beside the funeral home in Oak Hill, WV.
Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Sizemore, Eddie Hinte, Dean Bonifacio, Gary Lowe, Jim Bowyer, Jim Catlett, Frank Hartenstein and Brittany Dempsey.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association of WV and/or Hospice of Southern WV.
