Obituary for Larry Allen Porterfield
Larry Allen Porterfield, 76, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital due to a short illness. Larry was born in Beckley, WV, on November 23,1945 to parents Bernard and Beulah Porterfield.
He retired from the US Postal Service as a Letter Carrier in 2000 after 32 years. Larry was also an United States Army veteran having served 2 years in Fort Bliss, Texas from 1965 to 1967, earning the rank of Spec E4.
Larry loved to fish, hunt, do anything outdoors as well as bowling or playing golf. He looked forward to raising a small garden every summer and enjoyed feeding the wildlife in his front yard. He was also an avid reader. Above all, Larry loved making people laugh, it made him happiest of all.
In addition to his parents Larry was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn of 46 years, brothers Robert Porterfield and Lee Porterfield, and sister Carol Ann Sellards.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Diane and husband Fred Rickman III of Mount Hope, grandson Marshall Rickman and wife Katelyn of Mount Hope, granddaughter Kelsey Rickman of Mount Hope, brother Mannix Porterfield of Mabscott, and various nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 23, 2022 at High Lawn Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Bill Gillman officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley, WV.
Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home
Pallbearers are Fred Rickman III, Marshall Rickman, Duane Sellards, John Sellards, Mark Morrison, and Donnie Boone.
