Obituary for Joseph Clifton Adkins

Joseph Clifton Adkins 54 of Gatewood, WV went to his forever home on Monday January 31, 2022, at home surrounded by his family.
Joey was born on June 15, 1967, in Oak Hill, WV to Leon and Janice Adkins.

Joey was a concrete finisher, working with his dad and brother in the family business, and finished his career with Kanawha Stone Company. He enjoyed anything outdoors and loved fishing as well as spending time with family and friends. Joey was well known by everyone as a kind, considerate, and generous person. Joey’s life was filled with many challenges, but his Christian faith never wavered. He always kept a positive attitude, and kept going, never complaining.

He was proceeded in death by his grandparents Houston and Opal Adkins and Carl and Blanche O’Neal, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who are joyously waiting for him to join them in their heavenly home.

He will be greatly missed by his parents Leon and Jenny Adkins of Gatewood, WV. Brother Benny (Tami) Adkins, of Pass Christian, Mississippi, sister Brenda (Roy) Payne of Oak Hill, WV, and sister Susan (Trevor) Schmitt of Concord, NC. Nephews and nieces Benjamin, Luke, Samuel, Abbey, Hank, Phillip, Peyton, Michael, and Michelle. Great-nephew Caden and great-nieces Rylee and Kylee. Special aunt Betty Gillian and special uncles Charlie Adkins and Walter Adkins. He will also be missed by special friends Paul Norvell, Eric Compton, Kenny Williams, James “Whitey” Johnson, Raymond Walker, Shaun Lilly, and Mark Adams, along with his beloved little dog Dexter.

The family would like to say a great heartfelt thank you to the Wolf Creek Community Church and Pastor Scott Farnsworth.

The family would also like to extend a special thank you to all the friends and family who have supported them through this time of trial.

In keeping with Joey’s wishes he will be cremated, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.
