September 29, 1943 – March 15, 2022
Jackie Baughan passed away at home on March 15th, 2022 in Crumpler, North Carolina, he was 78 years old.
He is survived by his significant other, love of his life and caregiver, Pam Shatley of Crumpler, North Carolina. The mother of his children, Janet Tredway-Baughan of Fayetteville, West Virginia. Their three daughters; Faye DeQuasie of Oak Hill, West Virginia; Juanita Peka and her husband Gavin of Round Rock, Texas; Joni Baughan of Maryland. Grandchildren; Nicole Baughan of Austin, Texas; Stephen DeQuasie of Oak Hill, WV; Michael DeQuasie of Oak Hill, WV; Zachary Buchheim and his wife Kelsey Buchheim of Leavenworth, KS; Ziairra Owens-Baughan of Maryland; Armonti Owens-Baughan of Maryland; Patrick Flynn of Maryland; Brian Flynn of Maryland; and Great Grandchildren, Jaxson DeQuasie, Khloee Tomblin-DeQuasie, Caleb Moreno, Kamdyn DeQuasie, Spencer Moreno, Nazir Campos, Oliver Buchheim and Carter Simoens.
Jackie was preceded in death by his Uncle Lacy and Aunt Bessie Kincaid of Minden, West Virginia who raised him as their own. His cousin, Robert, who was known as “Bob” and raised as his brother. His Mother and father-in-law Fred and Hallie Tredway of Oak Hill, West Virginia.
Our Daddy was a “Jack” of all trades. He worked on the New River Gorge Bridge in the earlier stages where he was an electrician in the coal mines. His favorite role was as a truck driver of any and every type of truck out there. From his White Freightliner to his Dump Trucks hauling coal, dirt, gravel and rocks, he loved every minute.
Jackie was the business owner of JB Excavating and Landscaping and CMS Mail Contractors hauling U.S. mail. He was also an exceptional welder and mechanic. Jackie, Dad, our Papaw, loved to work, but he loved to work even harder to provide for the family he built.
Jackie was an avid Nascar fan of the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr. #3. He loved his Harley Davidson and enjoyed going to bike shows around the country where he won several awards. In his retirement years, his interest was rebuilding his 1950 Chevrolet. He loved his classic country music and gospel hymns until the day he was called home.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice Care Team of North Carolina. They were exceptional, compassionate, loving, and displayed empathy from the very beginning. Special thanks to Katie Medley (CNA), Trish Testerman (CNA), Nichole Coleman (RN), Dave Adams (Chaplain), Sarah Solsberg (Music Therapy) Gospel and playing the guitar. He loved every minute and sang every word. Dad had a beautiful voice. Maddie Winebarger (social worker). Also, a special thanks to Crystal Shatley and Donna Billings for their special loving care and being there for Pam. Also, special thanks to Chris and Joan Faw, Dad's neighbors and Pam’s brother and sister-in-law, for helping anytime there was a need.
Pallbearers are: Michael DeQuasie (grandson); Zachary Buchheim (grandson); Gavin Peka (son-in-law); Barry Massey (friend of family); Mike Lively (friend of family); Bryon Adkins (friend of family); John Hendrickson (friend of Daddy). Honorary Pallbearers are: Stephen DeQuasie (grandson); Patrick Flynn (grandson); Jaxson DeQuasie (great-grandson) and Caleb Moreno (great-grandson).
A celebration of life for Daddy will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Hill, West Virginia where he was a longtime member with Pastor Greg Swisher officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the American Diabetes Association.
