Obituary for Evelyn Fay Self
On Dec. 30, 2019, 75, Evelyn Fay Self was welcomed into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father.
Born in Duck, WV on August 18, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Okla and Callie Duffield.
She is survived by her loving husband Zane Farley Self of 55 years of blissful matrimony and her 5 Children: Daniel Patrick Self, Timothy Mark Self (Tammy), Michael Philip Self (Dawn), Sarah Jane Self Sloan (Robert), and Rebecca Susan Self. Her daughter-in-laws Tammy Self and Dawn Self were as close as daughters and were both loved by and loving toward Mother Evelyn. The joy of her life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. God blessed her with 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and she has now joined her granddaughter Laura Beth Self and great-grandson Kayden Matthew Key.
Evelyn was a devout Christian and her loving care and wisdom were a constant guide for all of her immediate family, nieces, nephews and many others throughout the years. Throughout the years, her home was always open as life circumstances allowed her to help raise 2 nephews and 1 niece for several years: Shawn Patrick McKinney (deceased), Ginger Marie McKinney and George Dewey McKinney III. Several grandchildren also found an open door in her home, throughout their formative years, and many community friends of her children and grandchildren also received benefit of her Christian spirit. She was a life-long member of the Christian Church / Church of Christ and members of the Oak Hill Christian Church and most recently attending the Oak Hill Church of Christ.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 3, 2020, 12 noon at High Lawn Funeral Home with services at 2:00 pm at High Lawn Memorial Park and will be officiated by minister John Scott
