Obituary for Ethel Lavaughn Adkins
Ethel “Tootsie” Lavaughn Adkins, 88, of Kincaid, WV passed away December 19, 2022, at the Ansted Center in Ansted, WV. She was born on March 26, 1934, in Braxton County, to George Howard Shaver and Alma Effie “Cottrell” Shaver.
Tootsie was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Throughout her life she enjoyed playing the accordion, guitar and organ. She spent many hours playing and singing with her sisters. Being of Christian faith she loved playing “Old Time Religious” music. Tootsie enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and often spoke of her love for them.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years James Lloyd Adkins, parents George and Alma Shaver, four brothers that include Ted Shaver, Chester Shaver, Otis Shaver and Fletcher Shaver and four sisters that include Zella Ray, Murtle England, Faye Adkins and Minnie Jones.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Sheila Walker (Bob) of Oak Hill, WV, Dewayne Adkins (Gina) of Kincaid, WV, three grandsons James Keith Stanley (Terri) of Kincaid, WV, Brandon Adkins (Jamie) of Corbin, Kentucky, and Troy Adkins of Caryville, Tennessee, one granddaughter Jennifer Stanley of Armstrong Creek, WV, three great grandsons Kevin Stanley (Miracle) of Kincaid, WV, Michael Adkins of Corbin, Kentucky, Issack Adkins of Jacksboro, Tennessee, four great granddaughters Alexis Stanley of Kincaid, WV, Kara Stanley of Armstrong Creek, WV, Brooklyn and Kadence Adkins of Corbin, Kentucky and two sisters-in-law Phyllis Ludwig (Lee) of Peterstown, WV, Sharon Robertson of Marietta, Georgia and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Ansted Center of Genesis, in Ansted, WV, for the wonderful care and love they gave Tootsie during her stay with them.
Pallbearers will include Brandon Adkins, Troy Adkins, Kevin Stanley, COL RET. Robert “Bob” Kincaid, Kenneth “Kenny” Fox and Dewayne Adkins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 30, 2022, at the High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill, WV with Pastor Delmas Wolfe officiating. Visitation will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, December 30, 2022. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
