Obituary for David Edward Ellison

David Edward Ellison went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Raleigh General Hospital with his loving wife Beth and daughter Mary by his side. David was born on March 6, 1971, in Beckley, WV, to the late Charles E. Ellison and Mildred Arline Ellison.
David and his father were co-owners of Charles Auto Repair where he met many wonderful close friends that became like family. He retired from the Fayette County Board of Education as a bus driver and was loved by many of the children that rode his bus. He also worked at Tri-County Delivery in Lochgelly for many years.
Since he was a young boy, David attended many Auto Fairs in Charlotte, NC and enjoyed seeing all his Auto Fair friends. One of David’s greatest loves was his wife, Beth. They enjoyed so many wonderful trips together, but their favorite trip was their honeymoon. After getting married in Nashville, TN they drove cross-country seeing Hoover Dam, and the Grand Canyon along the way but his favorite part of the trip was seeing Charlie Daniels in person at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas.
David’s love didn’t stop there, his daughter Mary “Peanut” was truly the apple of his eye. He was always so proud of the woman she had become. He would tell stories of all their many trips to the auto fairs and monster truck jams, as well as their many trips to the beach. He loved his daughter Mary more than life and seeing the excitement and love on her face made his whole world. David always told Mary that the greatest gift she ever gave him was his beautiful grandbaby, Aubrey Jo and shortly after she gave him a second beautiful grandbaby, Annalee Elizabeth. These two girls made his whole world and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. He greatly enjoyed watching his grandbabies, but his most important job was taking Aubrey Jo to school and picking her up. David loved all his girls, Beth, Mary, Aubrey Jo, Annalee, Abagail, Bailea, and Sara. He said, “God blessed him with so many girls in his life and he was proud of each one of them”.
David was loved by many people; he never met a stranger. Usually by the end of their first conversation they were already best buddies. He was a huge cut-up and loved to get people “fired up” just for a laugh. David’s long-time friend Bernard always referred to him as his “Jewish Brother”. He was known to be a negotiator, believing in any way to save a penny, and always wanted to make a deal.
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by many family members and friends.
David is survived by his loving wife Beth Ellison, daughter Mary Canterbury and husband Matt of Fayetteville, grandbabies Aubrey Jo and Annalee Canterbury, father-in-law and mother-in-law Thomas “Dad” and Anna Evans “Mom” of Oak Hill, brother Charles “Chuck” Ellison and wife Tammy of Oak Hill, along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Pallbearers will be Matt Canterbury, Thomas Evans, Bernard Jones, Jared and Jordan Adkins, Kent Ellison, Bryan Ellison, and Ronnie Helton.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to nurses Gabby, Kat, and all the other staff of RGH, as well as all our family and friends. The love we have been giving is truly a blessing.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Elmore officiating. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park.
