Obituary for Bradley Shawn Cox

Bradley Shawn Cox, 51, of Oak Hill, WV passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024 in the comforts of his home. Bradley was born on October 11, 1972 in Beckley, WV to parents Michael Cox and the late Brenda Harrah Plunkett.

Shawn was a graduate of Oak Hill High School, Class of ’90, and held Bachelor’s degree in Management and Finance from Marshall University, Class of ’94. He worked as a financial advisor, most recently for Edward Jones Investments.

Shawn met his future wife Shawna in his freshman year of college at Marshall University in 1990, they eventually married in September of 2000. He loved sci-fi franchise films, books, and comics including the Lord of the rings, Star Wars, and Marvel. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed rooting for the Marshall Thundering Herd, West Virginia Mountaineers, Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Braves. He was an extremely talented artist who created beautiful drawings, designs for knives his father would make, and insightful poetry. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends engaging in activities such as vacations to the beach, playing golf, and hosting cookouts. His main hobbies included collecting and working on knives and watches, playing computer-based video games such as Diablo with his friends, and building personal computers.

He was preceded in death by his mother Brenda Plunkett, grandparents Ralph & Mildred Harrah, and grandparents Stanley and Mary Cox.

Left to enjoy his memory include his wife Shawna Adkins-Cox and his son Cayden Cox, father and stepmother Michael and Rhonda Cox of Oak Hill; stepfather Mickey Plunkett of Roanoke, VA; siblings Scott Cox, wife Stacey, and nephews Justyn and Carson, of Fayetteville, WV, Carrie Kincaid and husband Philip of Fayetteville, WV, Heather Vandall, husband Stephen, and niece and nephews Blake, Ashton and Dalton of Mabscott, WV; stepsister Jennifer Hughes, husband Scott, and niece Paige of Beckley, WV; sisters-in-law Stacie Farrell, husband Kris and nieces Hannah, Erika and Amanda of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jamie Maynard and nieces and nephews Zachary, Brandon, James and Breanna of Lorado, WV, Gina Coakley, husband Samuel and niece Addison of Madison, WV; father-in-law James Adkins of Lorado, WV; and mother-in-law Gladys Pelfrey of Madison, WV.

He is also survived by lifelong friends Christopher Frost of Sanger, WV and Gregory Hewitt of Charleston, WV.

Services will be held at High Lawn Funeral Home in Oak Hill, WV at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 5, 2024. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park in Fayetteville, WV.

Friends may call on the family from 12:00 to 1:00 pm before the service.

Pallbearers will be his son Cayden Cox, brother Scott Cox, nephews Justyn and Carson Cox and friends Chris Frost and Greg Hewitt.

The family requests that donations be made in Shawn’s honor to Hospice of Southern West Virginia in lieu of flowers.
